The hermetic Oyster case construction patented by Rolex was a defining innovation in the history of watchmaking, leading to the world's first waterproof wristwatch, the Oyster. When the Rolex Oyster was first revealed in 1926, it was a world-class technological innovation on the scale of a contemporary smartphone you could safely plunge into water. To this day, each and every Rolex Oyster Perpetual model is guaranteed waterproof to at least 100 metres / 330 feet.
